Scope of Work: 

In my role as the Head of Digital Design at Walmart.com, I held responsibility for overseeing all aspects of digital creative output, in addition to spearheading several initiatives beyond the traditional remit of my team. My daily responsibilities encompassed the entirety of visual design for the website, mobile app, email campaigns, digital advertising, social media, and other digital channels, alongside providing creative leadership for the photo studio art direction and production teams. Furthermore, our team initiated and executed several programs that spanned print, digital, and motion graphics support, demonstrating our versatility and comprehensive skill set.

Key Contributions: 

During my leadership tenure at Walmart.com, our team achieved several milestones that profoundly impacted the company’s design and operational efficiency. One of the key highlights was the refinement of our Campaign Design process. By my final year, we had fine-tuned this process to such an extent that we spearheaded the marketing calendar and creative direction for all holiday campaigns. This strategic accomplishment allowed our entire creative department to enjoy a work-life balance unprecedented in the eCommerce sector, with the team leaving on time every day during the notoriously hectic retail holiday season.

Another significant contribution was the launch, testing, and refinement of the initial Grocery Pickup service. Under my guidance, we developed and scaled a comprehensive marketing system from a single location to over 2,000, covering various stages of acquisition and retention marketing strategies.

Additional notable achievements under my leadership include:

  • Introducing a Material Design Culture within the organization, enhancing our design language and consistency across platforms.
  • Innovating the packaging process by redesigning shipping boxes for print/cut on-demand, optimizing logistics and branding.
  • Redesigning the UX flows and pages for SmartLife (smart hub/connected home), improving user interaction and satisfaction with smart technology products.
  • Launching the precursor to Walmart+, the 2 Day Shipping program, setting a new standard for customer service and delivery efficiency.
  • Initiating the Medicare Part D partnership with Humana, including personally hand-coding pages for the project, demonstrating a hands-on approach to leadership.
  • Rapidly scaling the team by 30% in weeks to support organizational restructuring, demonstrating agility and responsiveness to company needs.
  • Establishing the first DIY social media photo studio, empowering our marketing efforts with high-quality, in-house produced content.
  • Reimagining Individual Development Plans for our creative staff, fostering professional growth and skill enhancement.
  • Creating engaging motion graphics for the Walmart store TV network, enhancing the in-store experience for customers.
